Proverbs 5:21 says - "For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He pondereth all His goings." Psalm 66:7 says - "He ruleth by His power for ever; His eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves."
Proverbs 15:3 adds - "The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good."
God is watching you.
How do you react when you hear these words? Does it terrorize or comfort you to hear of this fact?
Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Commentary said this - "That the eyes of the Lord are in every place watching everything chills those who do evil and comforts those who submit to Him."
God's eye is upon you. Whether in public or in private, He is closely watching you - weighing carefully all that you do. All your motions and actions are before His eyes. All the workings of your heart as well as those things which are done secretly or are disguised artfully - He sees as if they were done in the light.
Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Commentary offered this additional comment - "Here is the clincher: what one does in secret is never secret to God. The path of adultery is the course of ruin. A life of folly ends in bitter death. The secret path of an evil man is an open scandal in heaven; it ends in the loneliness of a private hell."
God has a commanding eye. From His throne, He has a clear and full view of all. Even the most remote places are under His inspection. He watches every man's movement, sees all his conduct, and knows his purposes and intentions.
His eyes are in every place - beholding the evil and the good. Nothing can be hidden or concealed from His sight nor can anything be overlooked or looked upon slightly. No matter if it is secret sins, services done in His name, or the sorrows of this life - they are all under His eye.
Those whose hearts are wholeheartedly devoted to Him are - in no way - threatened by such news. In fact, they take great comfort in it.
2 Chronicles 16:9 says - "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him..."
To the upright, the "eyes of the LORD" mean power, protection, safety, and deliverance.
The Wycliffe Bible Commentary said - "No problem can arise for God's people of which He is not aware, or from which He will not deliver."
The "eyes of the LORD" also denote inspiration, direction, support, and success in the work of the Lord - however great or small it may be.
Zechariah 4:10 verifies that thought - "For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth."
Man may look upon your "small" work with disdain and contempt, but the "eyes of the LORD" - "those seven" - already see it as an outstanding, glorious, finished product.
On the other hand, to the "rebellious," the "eyes of the LORD" portray restraint, limitation, and exposure to their sinful lifestyle.
Psalm 66:7 says - "He ruleth by His power for ever; His eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves."
Those who -
...are lifted up in pride
...are impatient under the restraints of God
...are secure in their sin
...are casting off His authority
...have a revolting heart
...or dare to rise up and challenge His power
- need to realize that they will never succeed in their purposes and plans. The Almighty - Who sees all and knows all - will surely cast them down. They will fall beneath His power.
God's eyes direct His hand and arm of power.
This statement can bring great comfort to you today - knowing that He sees all that you are facing and, consequently, will work on your behalf.
However, if you are living in open sin or rebellion, the fact that He sees all and and directs His hand accordingly - makes you very uneasy - for you know that His hand is not extended to help you but restrain and oppose you.
"That the eyes of the Lord are in every place watching everything chills those who do evil and comforts those who submit to Him."
Are you chilled or comforted by this message on the "eyes of the Lord"?
It all depends on whether or not you are doing evil or submitting unto God.
May God Bless His Word,
Connie
