Was that true?
Yes, it was true that Jesus "saved others." He saved, healed, delivered, etc. all those who put their faith and trust in Him as the Messiah and Son of God.
But was it true that "Himself He cannot save"?
No, a thousand times no!
On His journey to the Cross, in a sense, Jesus was continuously faced with the temptation to - "Save Thyself..."
Yet, He never gave in!
It wasn't because He could not! He simply would not! And it was all because He had you on His mind!
When the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Him to put Him to death (and found none), He could have "saved Himself." But He did not!
The High priest accused Him of "blasphemy" when He responded to the question - "Art Thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" (Mark 14:61) - with these words - "I AM: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." (Mark 14:62) Consequently, the entire council "condemned Him to be quilty of death." (Mark 14:64) At this point, He could have "saved Himself," but He did not!
When the chief priests, elders, and scribes "began to spit on Him, and to cover His face, and to buffet Him, and to say unto Him, Prophesy" (Mark 14:65), He could have "saved Himself" at this point. But He did not!
After His beloved disciple Peter denied Him three times "before the cock crowed twice," (Mark 14:72), He could have "saved Himself," but He did not!
After the people (moved by the chief priests) desired to have Barabbas (a murderer) released and Jesus condemned to death by crucifixion, He could have "saved Himself" then, but He did not!
When the people were crying out, "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!," (Mark 15:13-14) He could have"saved Himself" then, but He did not!
Surely He would "save Himself" after being scourged, smitten, spat upon, and mockingly worshipped as the "King of the Jews" by the Roman soldiers! (Mark 15:16-19) Yet, even at this point, He did not!
Now, He is on the Cross, being crucified between two thieves! People passing by are railing on Him, wagging their heads, and mocking Him. Darkness covers the entire land for three hours, and He feels totally abandoned of His Father. He cries out - "My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?" (Mark 15:33-34)
Surely, this is when He would reach the breaking point, and He would come down from the Cross and "save Himself!"
But, He did not do it!
It isn't because He could not, but He would not!
You ask - why?
What would compel Him to endure such intense and unbearable suffering?
The answer is - you! He had you on His mind!
He endured all of this because of His great love for - you!
He saw that on Thanksgiving of 2017, some would need a Savior... some would need a Healer ...some would need a Deliverer...some would need a Comforter...some would need a Provider...while others feeling all alone would need a Friend.
Oh, on the entire road to Calvary, Satan taunted and tempted Jesus to "save Himself," but He never gave in!
He went "all the way" for you- because He loves you!
He Who had all the power in heaven and earth to"save Himself" from such a horrendous death chose to go "all the way" for you - to demonstrate that He will always be there for you and that you are never alone!
This Thanksgiving, no matter what you are facing, you have a reason to "be thankful!"
You have a "Savior" Who knew that you would need Him (especially on Thanksgiving of 2017) so He went "all the way" for you - refusing to "save Himself" so that you could be "saved " (enjoy the "fruit" of His death!)
We, at Walking In Truth Ministry, are praying for each and every one of you who reads this update. May You have the Most Wonderful Thanksgiving in Jesus - and all because He refused to "save Himself" but instead went "all the way" for you!
