"Be 'steadfast' in times of peace, like rocks in the midst of a calm and glassy sea; be unmoveable like those same rocks when the billows dash against them."
- both quotes are from The Biblical Illustrator
In 1 Corinthians 15:58, the Apostle Paul exhorted all believers with these words - "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."
For the purpose of this Update, we want to focus on the words - "...be ye steadfast, unmoveable..."
What does it mean to be "steadfast" and what does it mean to be "unmoveable"?
A good way to explain this is to use the illustrations of the oak in the forest and the rock in the sea.
The oak is said to be "steadfast" in the summer sunset when the western glory is resting on its head. However, it becomes "unmoveable" in the black midnight when the howling storm tears through the forest and every other tree is uprooted and flung to the earth.
The same can be said of the rock in the sea. It is "steadfast" when the ocean all around it is only a broad, bright mirror - catching the glories of heaven. However, it becomes "unmoveable" when the ocean storm is raging round about and seeks to hurl it from its base or tear it up from its foundation.
Do you get the "picture"?
As a Christian, you are said to be "steadfast" when you are firm as a "rock" and fixed in the faith of the Gospel. You are settled, seated, sedentary, and standing your ground - like a statue.
You are strong and confident - adhering to the doctrines of the Gospel in opposition to prevailing error. Your faith does not stand in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. You know what you know, and knowing it, you cling to it.
Hence, you are not shaken or agitated with the strifes, temptations, or cares of life. The power of sin or the pretended philosophies of your culture cannot seduce you from your convictions. Your Christian course - marked by adherance to God and duty - is habitual and constant - not merely occasional.
To be "unmoveable," on the other hand, means that you are unshaken, not moved away, not turned aside, nor discouraged - in the face of overwhelming and difficult situations.
In a sense, you can say that it is "here" where you are "put to the test."
In the midst of temptation, opposition, tribulation, persecution, and even rewards...deceptive reasonings and arguments...the lax life of men of "corrupt minds and destitute of the truth"...or unpredictable dangers, you maintain your profession of the Gospel with an unshaken firmness.
Though the devil, the world, or the religious crowd throw every imaginable attack against you, you allow none of this to move you away from the hope of the Gospel - to shake your faith!
In spite of the impulses within or the forces without, the Apostle Paul urged each believer in Christ to - "...be ye steadfast, unmoveable..."
And this is where we feel that Walking In Truth Ministry comes in. It is our "mission" - through our weekly Podcasts as well as our written teachings - to fortify each believer to be able to remain "steadfast" and "unmoveable" amidst changing scenes and times.
We feel that it is our "mission" - by means of timely messages from God's Holy Word and the anointing of the Holy Spirit - to build a positive, intrinsic firmness in each saint of God as well as to build up a resistance to the mightiest, outward pressures and fiercest onsets.
The sceptics are howling and raging. However, God's Word can and will empower the Christian to stand strong.
You will notice that some of our messages are for times when everything is going well - when what is needed is constancy and perseverance in your course. But then there are other messages which address times when "the howling storm" is seeking to uproot you or tear you up from your foundation of faith.
Simply said - we are here to help you grow more "steadfast" and "unmoveable" in the faith of the Gospel. So, be sure to take advantage of every message that comes your way from this ministry. You will find that they are very unique and timely "words" from the Lord!
